Dmytro Shutaiev was born in 1997 in Simferopol and moved to Kyiv in 2015. He graduated from the Institute of Journalism at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, where he later worked as a political journalist, photojournalist, and video editor.
In 2024, he was mobilised into the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
His love of photography began while documenting civic and political protests in Kyiv, when the sky was filled with smoke and sparks from pyrotechnics, and clashes with the police could erupt at any moment. At the same time, he has always enjoyed photographing quieter, everyday moments – friends gathered around a table, walks through the streets of Kyiv, fragrant spring flowers, and even the restless dogs and cats he and his wife share their home with.
During his military service, Dmytro continued to photograph everyday moments and the routines of military life. These photographs were published in Solomiya No. 5: After Now (2025).
