Tetiana Pavlova is a Doctor of Art History, Professor, and founder of the Department of Photography and Visual Practices at the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts. Since the late 1980s, she has been a pioneer in developing the scholarly discourse on the Kharkiv School of Photography. She has curated and created more than 60 photographic exhibitions in Ukraine, Europe, and the United States, and is the author of books and articles on Ukrainian avant-garde art and photography published in Ukraine and internationally.
As a specialist in the history of Ukrainian photography, she contributed to the international three-volume publication The History of European Photography (2010–2016). She has participated in international photography festivals, including the Month of Photography in Bratislava, the Kyiv International Photography Festival, and Paris Photo.
She has been invited to give lectures on the history of Ukrainian photography at the Ukrainian Museum in New York (USA, 2012); Zachęta – National Gallery of Art and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute in Warsaw (Poland, 2014, 2015); the National Art Museum of Ukraine in Kyiv (2017); PinchukArtCentre (2019); Camera Austria in Graz (Austria, 2022); Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie in Arles (France, 2022); the Ukrainian Cultural Centre (2023); and the Ukrainian Institute in Paris (France, 2024).
She has also co-organised major international conferences in Kharkiv, including Neorealism in Times of Conflict (2015) and Kharkiv School of Photography (2020).
