Public Organisation After Silence is an independent Ukrainian initiative working at the intersection of memorial culture, public history, social anthropology, and archival research. Founded in 2021, the organisation documents overlooked and silenced histories through oral history testimonies, field research, the digitisation of private archives, documentary projects, and public engagement. Its work focuses on individual experiences, collective trauma, memory, and postmemory, particularly in relation to the twentieth century and the legacies of Soviet and Nazi violence in Ukraine. Through projects such as Pid chas perebuvannia v Hermanii (“During the Time Spent in Germany”), After Silence preserves and researches vernacular photography, family archives, and personal testimonies, contributing to a deeper understanding of Ukraine’s past and its continuing impact on the present.
